If you’re looking for fun activities in Waterloo Region, look no further! These upcoming events for May and June offer something for everybody. There are so many options available in Kitchener-Waterloo, but it’s not always easy to find out about events before they happen! That’s why we did the work of compiling this list for you, so you can enjoy all the great events of spring without the stress of searching through event pages. Whether you love music, getting active, or delicious food (come on-who doesn’t?) there’s sure to be something on this list you’ll be dying to go to!
May 11- Journey & Supertramp
Come out to the Centre in the Square for another KWHydro Electric Thursday. Enjoy classic hits such as Dreamer, Breakfast in America, and Don’t Stop Believin’ performed by the Jeans ‘n Classics band and vocalists. This is a show you won’t want to miss!
May 13- Girls Can Fly!
Do you have a daughter or niece aged 8-18? The Girls Can Fly event is being put on by the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre in an effort to celebrate women in aviation. This annual event includes a tour, the chance to meet women pilots, and a free flight for those who register in advance! Registration is currently open, so act quickly to secure a spot for the flight-loving girl in your life.
May 17- Beer & Rage Yoga
What kind of yoga? The fabulous Beer+ series continues at themuseum with this fun and cathartic event. Head on over at 7pm for a pint from Four Fathers Brewing Co. and an energizing yoga session by Queen Street Yoga! If you prefer to get your exercise by dancing, wait for May 31st: Beer & Swing (no experience required).
May 29- Abe Erb Brew Ha Ha Comedy Show
Did you catch our recent post on Abe Erb’s new Kitchener location? If not, why not go take a look? We guarantee it’ll make this fantastic comedy show look even more appealing! Abe Erb is working in collaboration with Rusty Nail Comedy to feature some of Ontario’s best stand-up comedians at their brand new location. May 31- Dangerous Ideas: Water is Life
Come out to this talk at the University of Waterloo to learn more about the phrase “water is life” and what exactly it means. Inspirational speakers include women who have dedicated their lives to protecting the interests of the people. If you watched the recent protests at Standing Rock and want to learn more and become more involved, this talk may be for you. If you can’t make it to UW, don’t worry! This event is also being webcast live from the University Campus, so don’t forget to tune in.
June 9- Intro to Caribbean Cooking
Have you always wanted to take a cooking class? Look no further! The Culinary Studio in Kitchener is constantly putting on hands-on classes where you can learn anything from how to smoke meat to everyday Japanese cuisine. Check out this intro to caribbean cooking, pop in on cinco de mayo for some delicious Mexican recipes, or check out their page for other options! June 12- Break the Fast with Muslim Women
This summer, the Muslim Women’s Coalition invites you to experience Ramadan traditions from around the world right in the Victoria Park pavilion! Sample traditional delicacies, enjoy conversation with Muslim women from diverse backgrounds, and stay for a presentation on “Hijab: History and Cultural Manifestations.” This is a great opportunity to learn about the many different Ramadan traditions and the traditional foods used to break fast.
June 13- The Stop’s Night Market *Toronto Event*
Have you heard of The Stop? If not, we highly recommend you check them out! Their amazing ideas and innovations will completely change the way you look at food banks- we promise. The approaches The Stop takes towards ending hunger are truly revolutionary and, most importantly, aim to combat food insecurity at the source. Have you heard of Paint Nite? If not, now’s the perfect time to look it up! These creative sessions are hosted at multiple different venues (usually somewhere you’ll be able to grab a drink or a bite to eat) and are a great group activity. Simply show up ready to paint and follow behind the instructor to create a beautiful and (slightly) unique masterpiece of your own!
