Looking for a new activity this weekend? Look no further! Why not escape the heat for a few hours and head to one of the fantastic art galleries in our region?
Waterloo has the unique honour of boasting the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. This is the only gallery in Canada that focuses exclusively on showcasing glass, ceramics, stained glass, and similar artwork. What’s more, they offer a “Play with Clay” program that lets you create and glaze your very own object out of clay! It is perfect as an activity for the kids, or a unique date idea. They also offer periodic adult workshops for creating unique artwork out of many different materials. Check out their website for more information on current exhibits.
If you’re looking for a more traditional, painting-focused gallery, why not head over to Paint by Munzy? This small art gallery in Uptown Waterloo is run by a Canadian brother-sister team. The artist, Jonathan Munz, draws inspiration from The Group of Seven. Various canvas prints, calendars, oil paintings, and even colouring books are for sale at the gallery and online.
For a wide variety, constantly rotating exhibits, and a larger gallery, check out the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery. This art gallery is located inside the Centre in the Square, and offers free admission and artist talks. They also provide workshops for adults or children, and often hosts special events. Make a day of it by catching a play, a performance by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, or another production at the Centre in the Square!
