Chances are, you take your dog to the groomers fairly regularly. Just about all playful pups love to stomp through a puddle of mud, roll in the neighbours garbage, and pursue other doggy activities that ultimately result in us plugging our noses as we hug them! So it’s off to doggy daycare they go to be pruned, pampered, and washed. However, sometimes the regular visit to the groomers just isn’t enough! If your dog is the type that starts smelling less than squeaky-clean just a few days after their last bath, these tips for keeping your dog clean may just be a game changer.
How To Keep Your Dog Clean Between Baths
Doggy Wipes: Think of doggy wipes as the canine version of a cleaning wipe! These wipes are perfect for battling dirt and/or odour in between baths. You can get them in a variety of different scents, or unscented. Some will also contain conditioning ingredients to help your pup’s coat look as shiny and clean as possible!
Dry Dog Shampoo: Did you even know that this existed? Well, lucky for you, now you do! Dry dog shampoo works in just about the same way as regular dry shampoo. Spray or sprinkle some on top of your pet, rub it in, and then brush it through their coat. These awesome powders will help absorb oils and dirt, deodorize, and leave your pup looking all around fresh and clean.
Brushing: If you can’t wash, brush! Brushing your dogs coat regularly will help remove excess dirt and debris that builds up over time. This is especially true for breeds that have thick, curly, or shaggy hair.
Dog Perfume/Cologne: Oh my gosh. This exists too?? It does, and it’s great. Obviously, we aren’t suggesting you simply throw some perfume on your pup and call it a day, but these products can be great for deodorizing. DO NOT spray human perfume or cologne on your dog! Doggy perfumes are specifically made for a reason: human colognes may cause them to have an allergic reaction or skin irritation.
Keep Pet Products Clean: Does your pup constantly sleep on the couch or a dog bed? Do they wear a coat, sweater, or other pup garments? Keep these fabrics clean! Washing your dog only to have them go lie down on their favourite (unwashed) blanket is an exercise in futility. If you keep puppy products clean, it’ll help keep your pup clean as well!
