As the beautiful weather continues, there’s lots to do in Kitchener! One of our favourite annual events is the TD Kitchener Blues Festival. Every August, a section of King Street by Kitchener City Hall is blocked off for a weekend and dedicated to blues bands, food trucks, and shopping. Catch a performance on the main stage, check out the roadside booths that will pop up everywhere, and get some fantastic street food! This year, the festival is happening from August 10th to 13th. This year’s lineup includes Earl & The Agitators, the Third Coast Kings, Cowboy Junkies, and much more! (Updated June 2017)
Outside the Main Event at the Blues Festival:
○ If you’re looking for a more indoor, bar style experience, check out 12 Bar Blues! The bands performing on the outdoor stages can also be seen at various restaurants, hotels, and bars around town. Our suggestions for great venues this year include the Boathouse, GILT Restaurant, Abe Erb at the Tannery, and B@THEMUSEUM. We love the Boathouse for its beautiful location right on the lake in the heart of Victoria Park. For the tapas lover, GILT is the obvious choice, offering delicious gourmet tapas and perfectly crafted share platters. Abe Erb is a brand new restaurant in Kitchener, offering their very own craft beer, a great relaxed ambience, and delicious food. Finally, B@THEMUSEUM offers a small but fantastic flavourful menu, and a cute sidewalk patio. For a list of all 12 great venues, and which bands will be playing where, click here.
○ If you’d like to try your hand at blues, why not check out a workshop put on by the festival? A total of 8 workshops will be available in the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday, with 4 taking place at the Boathouse and 4 taking place at Cork Hall by McCabes.
Admission to the festival is free, but tickets for the kick-off concert on Thursday can be purchased here.
