With the ever-increasing demands of a modern lifestyle, it is really no surprise that meditation rooms have emerged as a popular choice for homeowners with a room to spare. These eclectic rooms offer a welcome respite from the pressing demands of everyday life. Of course, “meditation” is used loosely here- these rooms can be used for everything from sharing tea with a friend to settling down with a good book. Do you have an extra room in the house? Consider transforming it into a haven!
Here are some of our favourite ideas…
Take Full Advantage of a Gorgeous View
If you happen to have a stunning view, don’t let it go to waste! Use large windows or even patio doors to emphasize and frame. Then, center your room around it! Are you looking at mountains? Use a palette of greys and whites to emphasize that. The same goes if you are lucky enough to back onto a river or beachfront. If you’re trapped in the city, looking out over a park, or down from a high rise, can also provide a pretty backdrop.
Don’t Hesitate to add Colour!
While the unspoken rule about relaxing spaces tends to focus on white or monochromatic colour schemes, this is not necessary! You can absolutely create a calming mood while still using all the colours you love. After all, a meditation room is all about creating a space that makes you feel happy and calm. With that in mind, many homeowners have chosen to use soothing blues and purples, or vibrant yellows and greens. The result is always gorgeous!
I know, just the combination of these two words immediately brings to mind a messy, sandy disaster. However, this idea has been incorporated so elegantly and effectively into modern meditation rooms that it can’t be ignored! Book-sized sand “gardens” are often used for their anxiety reducing effect. But, this meditation room took things to the next level with a gorgeous circular sandbox right in the middle of the room! If that doesn’t appeal to you, no problem- the smaller version is equally calming.
