It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… which means this cold weather is here to stay! Never fear, though: Waterloo Region has you covered! Instead of going into hibernation, why not check out one of the many skating rinks in your area?
Waterloo Public Square: Worried about ION Construction? Worry no longer. Uptown Waterloo has reopened for the holidays! Why not take the opportunity to go skating at the Waterloo Square outdoor rink? Located just outside the Uptown shops, this rink offers free, family friendly skating from 10am to 10pm. Make a day of it by visiting one of the many local businesses to finish up your Christmas shopping. Alternatively, warm up by grabbing a bite to eat at Beertown or Famoso, both located right next to the rink. Check here for more info!
Carl Zehr Square: For those closer to the downtown area, this rink located right outside Kitchener city hall has you covered. Take the kids for a skate, check out a holiday event, or simply get some exercise! Nearby coffee shops and other businesses offer the chance for a steaming cappuccino, last-minute gift, and a respite from the cold.
Neighbourhood Rinks: The cities of Kitchener and Waterloo work along with community volunteers to provide plenty of rinks for public access. Kitchener outdoor rinks can be found here. For a full list of outdoor neighbourhood rinks in Waterloo, click here.
OK, OK- If you’d really prefer to avoid the elements, there are a whole host of indoor skating rinks to choose from!
