Living wage differs from minimum wage in that it is not the bare minimum all employers must pay. The current minimum wage in Ontario is $11.25, whereas a living wage for Waterloo Region is $16.05. Living wage is calculated as the hourly rate at which a household can meet its needs. The goal of this wage is to reduce poverty and economic insecurity.
